Bank statements, invoices, price lists, financial reports and exported database reports often arrive as PDF files, yet the data inside them belongs in a spreadsheet. Copying a table out of a PDF usually produces one long line of text that has to be split by hand. This PDF to Excel converter reads the position of every piece of text on each page, rebuilds the rows and columns of the table and writes the result to a real .xlsx workbook that opens in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc and Numbers. Because the conversion runs in your browser, confidential statements and reports are never uploaded to a server.
How table detection works
A PDF does not store tables as tables. It stores small runs of text together with their x and y coordinates. The converter first groups text that shares a baseline into rows. Inside each row, words that sit close together are joined into one cell, while larger horizontal gaps start a new cell. It then looks at all rows on the page and merges the horizontal extents of their cells into column bands, so a value that is right-aligned or slightly offset still lands in the correct column. Headings and paragraphs above or below a table become rows of their own, which you can delete in Excel. When columns are tightly spaced, choose Fine sensitivity; when one column is being split into several, choose Coarse.
Numbers, sheets and clean-up tips
With the number option enabled, amounts written with thousands separators, currency symbols, percent signs or accounting parentheses are stored as numeric values, so formulas, totals and charts work immediately. You can place each page on its own worksheet, which keeps multi-page reports easy to navigate, or stack every page into one sheet for a continuous list such as a long transaction history. Scanned documents have no text layer, so they need OCR before they can be converted. After downloading, check merged cells, wrapped text in narrow columns and repeated page headers, and use filters or Remove Duplicates in your spreadsheet to tidy the result.
